Legal proceedings brought by members of the family of the late Mise Eire composer, Sean O Riada, against RTE and Naxos Records are to come before the High Court today. In court yesterday, Ms Fidelma Macken SC, for the O Riada family, said the matter could be adjourned to today on the basis that it was anticipated it would not trouble the court.

In the proceedings, the family claim there have been infringements by RTE and Naxos in relation to one of their father's compositions.

The O Riada music, The Banks of Sullane, has been recorded by the RTE Symphonietta as part of a Naxos CD entitled Romantic Ireland. The O Riada family claim they own the copyright and have never given permission for such a recording.

Although O Riada composed The Banks of Sullane in 1956 while working for RTE, the family maintain that their father always held on to the copyright of his works and that it now belongs to his children.
