Ryanair chief executive Mr Michael O'Leary has earned €23.9 million by selling off part of his stake in the company.

Ryanair chief executive Mr Michael O'Leary has earned €23.9 million by selling off part of his stake in the company.

The 42-year-old, who is thought to be worth more than €400 million, sold off four million shares in the low cost carrier - almost 9 per cent of his 5.9 per cent holding in the company.

But with a 5.4 per cent stake in the company, he is still the largest single shareholder in Ryanair.

Mr O'Leary has sold shares in the company ever since it was floated in May 1997. This time last year he sold seven million shares.

Meanwhile non-executive director Mr Declan Ryan also sold four million shares today.

A spokeswoman for Ryanair said: "Disposals by shareholders are not a matter for the company."
