Brisk consumer demand for mobile phone handsets will generate third-quarter earnings at the top end or above previous guidance, Nokia said today.

The Finnish firm said in its mid-quarter trading statement that pro forma earnings for the quarter would be at the top end of or above its previously announced range of 15-17 cent per share, down from 18 cent a year ago.

Mobile phone sales would be flat to lower year-on-year due to the stronger dollar in the comparison period.
