Dublin - A Dublin-born doctor is to head a new body to oversee the development of public health services in Britain.

Prof Aidan Halligan (41), from Templeogue, Dublin, will become director of the National Health Service's clinical governance support team on Friday. A graduate of Trinity College Dublin, he worked in the Rotunda, the Mater and St James's Hospitals, Dublin, before taking up a post at the University of Leicester in 1993.
