What could be the first of many court moves to force hotels to honour agreements to let out rooms for New Year's Eve parties was settled in the Circuit Civil Court yesterday.

A company director, Mr Peter Plant, and his wife Naomi, of Grange Manor Avenue, Rathfarnham, Dublin, had sued Stakis Hotels (Ireland) Ltd, Charlemont Place, Dublin, seeking specific performance of an alleged contract to provide them with facilities for a family reunion and with 20 bedrooms on December 31st.

Ms Sara Moorehead, counsel for the hotel group, said the matter had been resolved and the proceedings could be struck out with no order as to costs.
