New health centre for minorities

A health information centre for members of ethnic minority communities will be officially opened in Dublin today.

A health information centre for members of ethnic minority communities will be officially opened in Dublin today.

The Health Information and Advocacy Centre (HIAC) is jointly funded by Dublin  City Council and the Health Service Executive.

The facility has already helped 1,300 people during the past six months.

"Such a demand is clear illustration of the unique and substantial health  needs of ethnic minority communities are not being met by current health  services," said a spokesman for development group, Cairde.

The application process for Medical Cards or GP Visit Cards is one of the  issues raised most often by ethnic minorities.

Minister for Integration Policy Conor Lenihan will officially open the HIAC  facility at Mountjoy Square.
