An explosion sounded across central Baghdad today and smoke rose above the commercial district, witnesses said.
There was no immediate explanation for the cause of the blast, which went off about eight hours after a car bomb exploded at an entrance to the headquarters of the US led coalition, killing the head of the Iraqi Governing Council, Mr Izzedin Salim.
