Ajaccio - France's new representative in Corsica, Mr Jean Pierre Lacroix, arrived on the island to take up his post yesterday as a scandal over illegal police action continued to shake French politics.
Mr Lacroix arrived discreetly at Ajaccio airport before official ceremonies today to mark his taking office at the tightly guarded prefecture building in the city centre.
His predecessor, Mr Bernard Bonnet, is in a Paris jail on suspicion of ordering a crack police team to burn down an illegally-built beachfront restaurant last month.
