The consecration of the new Church of Ireland Bishop of Derry and Raphoe, the Right Rev Ken Good, took place at St Patrick's Cathedral, Armagh, yesterday.

It was conducted by the Church of Ireland Primate of All Ireland, Archbishop Robin Eames.

The presenting bishops were the Most Rev Dr Richard Clarke, Bishop of Meath and Kildare, and the Rt Rev Dr Richard Henderson, Bishop of Tuam, Killala and Achonry.

Bishop Good, who is 49, was educated at Cork Grammar School and Middleton College, Co Cork, and is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin and Nottingham University.

He trained for the ordained ministry at St John's College, Nottingham. He was ordained deacon in 1977, priest in 1978, and served as curate in Willowfield Parish, Belfast.

From 1979 to 1984 he was chaplain and head of religious education in Ashton comprehensive school, Cork.

He was rector of Dunganstown Union, Glendalough Diocese, from 1984 to 1990, and rector of Shankill Parish, Lurgan, from 1990 to this year. He was made Archdeacon of Dromore in 1997.

He is married to Mary who comes from Seattle, USA. They have three children: Jennifer, Peter and Andrew. He enjoys golf and represented Munster schools at hockey and cricket.

He was elected by the House of Bishops on March 13th after the episcopal electoral college for Derry and Raphoe diocese failed to make an appointment at its meeting on March 1st.
