Washington - NASA yesterday was still holding out hope that there may be evidence of water on the moon, even after its planned Lunar Prospector's crash there failed to produce the hoped-for results.

"Right now we don't know that water ice was not observed - it might be in the data somewhere," a NASA statement quoted Mr David Goldstein, who led the University of Texas team that proposed the south polar crash, as saying.
