A fire that broke out in a waste depot outside Naas today has been brought under control tonight.

The fire was reported at the A1 Waste recovery and recycling centre at Kerdiffstown, near Naas, Co Kildare at 5.49pm.

Anthony Doyle, station officer with Naas Fire Brigade, said “tonnes and tonnes” of waste had caught fire and that a cloud of thick black smoke could be seen for miles around.

He said gardaí were due to investigate the cause of the fire, which occurred in a disused dump at the site.
