Police in Derry have begun a murder investigation after a woman's body was discovered in a house in the Shantallow area of the city.

The victim was named as Jean Quigley (30) from Cornshell Fields, Shantallow.

Ms Quigley, who was six months pregnant with her fifth child, was beaten to death in the bedroom of her home. Her body was found at 8.45pm on Saturday and the police believe she may have been murdered up to twenty-four hours beforehand.

The PSNI appealed for anyone who was in the area between 10.30pm on Friday and 8.30pm on Saturday to come forward.
