Munster made amends for last year's final defeat to Leinster by beating Welsh club Neath 37-17 in the Celtic League final at the Millennium Stadium.

It was a triumphant return for Munster to the ground where they were beaten by Leicester in last year's European Cup final.

Ireland stand-off Ronan O'Gara got Munster off to a solid start with four penalties in the opening quarter.

Munster then lost their trusty kicker soon after. Neath flanker Brett Sinkinson stamped on the international and O'Gara limped off the pitch.

But tries from Marcus Horan, Alan Quinlan and Rob Henderson, plus replacement kicker Jeremy Staunton's two conversions and two penalties eased Munster to victory.

In reply a below-par Neath could only manage three penalties and a drop goal from Lee Jarvis and a try in the fifth minute of stoppage time from prop Adam Jones.

Afterwards Munster's Australian captain Jim Williams told the BBC: "We started well, made a few mistakes and came back really well.

"When O'Gara went off we had to alter our game," the back-row added. "I thought we would get a harder game today," said Williams.

He insisted this victory, following last season's European defeat by Leicester and the Celtic League loss to Leinster was proof that "Munster do not choke in finals".

Munster have a chance for revenge against Leicester when they travel to Welford Road for this season's European Cup quarter-final on April 13th.

"We're ready for it," Williams insisted. "This team is at its best playing away from home."
