A mudslide engulfed a road near a ski resort in central France overnight, narrowly bypassing a cluster of chalets, but no casualties were reported so far, emergency service officials said this morning.

The mudslide blocked off the access road to the complex known as "Les Egravats," near the Mont-Dore ski town in the Puy-de-Dome region, said a spokesman for an emergency unit set up by the local government.

Firefighters evacuated around 30 people and search teams with sniffer dogs were protectively dispatched to the area.

The mudslide appeared to have been triggered by a rise in temperatures and heavy rains.
