A motorist who killed a pedestrian in a hit-and-run has been jailed for three years by Judge Patrick McCartan at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Bradean Samolia (26), a Romanian asylum-seeker and father of two children born in Ireland, was hugged by his wife, Claudia, who wept as sentence was passed. He admitted he lied to gardai because he was afraid he would be deported if he admitted killing newsagent Noel Farrell on Prussia Street, Dublin, on February 2nd, 1998.

Samolia (26), of Gardiner Place, Dublin, had earlier pleaded guilty to making a false statement to gardai by claiming his car was stolen.
