London - Mortgage lenders yesterday sounded a note of caution about the cost of implementing government proposals to make house-buying more efficient and warned that they could deter some people from putting their home on the market.

The Council of Mortgage Lenders said there was obviously a "clear benefit" for buyers being provided with information on a property at an early stage, in a "seller's information pack" - one of the key recommendations of the government's consultation document.
