Jerusalem - The Israeli government has approved plans to build an additional 2,500 homes on the occupied Golan Heights, Israel radio has said. The construction will signficantly add to the 13,000-strong Jewish population of the Golan Heights, which Israel captured from Syria in 1967 and annexed in 1981. Israel and Syria have not held negotiations since Mr Benjamin Netanyahu was elected prime minister in 1996, vowing to keep the Golan under Israeli control.
