Ahmedabad, India - Indian officials said yesterday that 47 people had died over the past fortnight in heavy monsoon rain lashing the west and south of the country. The rains in the western state of Gujarat have forced hundreds of people to evacuate to safer areas of the province, large tracts of which have been scorched by drought over the last three years.
