Northern Assembly members have been given the power to authenticate passports from the Republic. The SDLP MLA for East Derry, Mr John Dallat, said he secured the concession from the Department of Foreign Affairs after pointing out that the RUC could authenticate Irish passports and Assembly members could do so with British passports.
