Millions of people in London faced travel chaos today because of a strike over pay and working hours by train drivers on the city's underground system.
A 24-hour walkout by more than 7,500 Rail, Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) members will halt trains on much of the 250 mile (400 km) Tube network.
The strike on the world's oldest underground system began yesterday evening, but the most severe problems will be felt today. Motoring organisations fear traffic jams on major routes into London.
The dispute centres on demands for higher wages and a 35-hour working week.

"The Underground strike will cripple London and subject commuters to another day of transport misery for no real apparent reason," the London Assembly said in a statement today.
