The Worthington Cup final between Tottenham Hotspur and Blackburn Rovers this afternoon will be the first English cup final to be played "indoors" after officials ordered the roof of the Millennium Stadium to be closed.

"The roof will be closed in the interests of spectator safety and comfort," said John Nagle, spokesman for the Football League after rain persisted in the Welsh capital.

"Both teams are happy with the decision...it is the first time a domestic final has been played under a roof," Nagle said.

The Charity Shield match in August last year - between Manchester United and Liverpool - was also played under a roof at the Millennium Stadium.
