Men stole gold chain from man found dead on bus

THE MOTHER of a Dublin man who was found dead on a bus last year has condemned the actions of two men who stripped his body of a mobile phone and a gold chain.

Kathleen Grendon, from Ballyfermot, said she knows the men responsible and that they should be prosecuted.

Jason Grendon (38) was found dead on the 78A bus, which runs between Aston Quay and the Liffey Valley shopping centre, in May of last year.

When Mr Grendon, a father of two, was discovered dead, all other passengers were asked to step off the bus. However, two men in tracksuits re-boarded the vehicle and are understood to have taken the items and fled the scene.

Ms Grendon told RTÉ radio that when she went to identify her son's body she asked if he was wearing jewellery and was told they had found a wrist chain. She said he also wore a gold chain around his neck, worth some €3,000, but this was missing.

Ms Grendon said she later learned who had removed the objects, got in contact with them and that a relative of this person returned the chain, which had been damaged. Mr Grendon's mobile phone was not recovered.

A postmortem found Mr Grendon died of a combination of alcohol and heroin toxicity. A verdict of death by misadventure was recorded by the Dublin county coroner earlier this week.
