The national Crime Victims Helpline, which is a central contact point for all victims of crime, has appointed retired Garda superintendent Joe McKeown to its board.

Mr McKeown, who is a member of the Court Support Service board, has previously worked in the community relations section of An Garda Síochána, where he had responsibility for assisting victims of crime.

The helpline (1850 211407) provides an opportunity for people to find emotional support, ask questions about the justice system or ask for information on local services.
