McAleese to visit Saudia Arabia and Jordan

President Mary McAleese will begin a week-long visit to the Middle East next weekend.

The itinerary was officially cleared at the Government's weekly Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

Mrs McAleese will travel to Saudi Arabia on February 11th for a two-day state visit and later to Jordan for three further days. A business delegation representing over 40 Irish companies will also travel.

While in Saudi Arabia, Mrs McAleese will deliver a keynote speech at the Jeddah Economic Forum, one of the Middle East's most important annual gatherings of world leaders, government officials, academics and business leaders.

She is also scheduled to hold a meeting with Saudi businesswomen.

Mrs McAleese will begin her trip to Jordan as guest of honour at an official welcoming ceremony hosted by King Abdullah and Queen Rania in Amman.

She will also meet Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit and religious leaders, address the Jordanian Parliament and visit the ancient Petra heritage site.

The President will return to Ireland on Friday 17th.
