Passenger capacity on the Maynooth rail line is to be doubled from next Monday, Iarnród Éireann announced today.

The company said peak-time capacity will rise to over 4,000, with two extra services. Off-peak services will also be improved, and a Sunday service is being introduced.

The majority of the trains - which service commuters in Castleknock, Coolmine, Clonsilla, Leixlip and Maynooth - will operate to and from Pearse Street station.

Iarnród Éireann said the route had recently undergone a £20 million refurbishment under a joint Government/European Union investment programme to upgrade tracks, signalling and passenger amenities.
