The Rotunda Maternity Hospital in Dublin has confirmed it is

screening around 30 people for tuberculosis.

The people are being screened after a woman they were sharing a maternity ward with was diagnosed as having TB.

The woman became ill two weeks after giving birth and returned to the Rotunda where it was only later discovered that she had the disease.

Patients and staff who may have been in contact with the woman have been contacted and screened.

A spokeswoman for the hospital was unable to say if visitors to the maternity ward had also been contacted and screened. She added that the risk of either patients or staff contracting the disease is small.
