Manager denies bullying

A MANAGER with waste company Greyhound has denied he bullied a woman who later resigned from her position, an Employment Appeals Tribunal heard yesterday.

Gareth Holland, an accountant with the firm, said he treated credit controller Dee O’Malley with respect and was “very fond of her”.

Ms O’Malley, from Ranelagh in Dublin, had claimed she was constructively dismissed in July 2010 and left due to “difficult working conditions”.

These included being bullied and not being supported by her manager, Mr Holland.

She resigned after being refused flexibility around working hours and working from home which would have helped her cope with a period of illness prior to needing surgery.

Yesterday she claimed she had been shouted at by Mr Holland and recounted a meeting with clients when she said he told her to “stop” while she was talking. “Everyone at the meeting just froze.”
