TOULOUSE – A British man who appealed against a conviction for killing his wife and dumping her body in a French lake was last night jailed for 12 years.

Robert Lund, from Darwen in Lancashire, was found guilty by a new jury during a retrial in Toulouse, south-west France, of killing his second wife Evelyn (52).

The former tree surgeon was originally convicted of killing her by a court in Albi in 2007 and jailed for 12 years.

During the five-day retrial, the court heard how Mrs Lund went missing from their farmhouse in the remote village of Rayssac on the night of December 29th, 1999.
