Man to be sentenced over improvised bomb

A Dublin man who admitting having an improvised bomb in the back seat of his car at at the West-Link Toll Bridge will be sentenced at the Special Criminal Court today.

Martin O'Rourke (22) of Sheepmore Grove, Blanchardstown pleaded guilty last month to knowingly possessing an improvised explosive device on the M50 motorway at Castleknock on December 8th last.

Members of the Special Detective Unit surrounded O'Rourke's car and made the arrest. O'Rourke is currently serving a two-year prison term for driving a stolen motorbike dangerously and at speed while being pursued by gardai in Lucan.

There is expected to be a high security presence around the Special Criminal Court for today's sentencing.
