A man believed to be in his late 20s plunged at least 50 feet from a four-storey building in Cork yesterday and was last night in an extremely critical condition at Cork University Hospital, with severe head and spinal injuries.

He appeared at the top of the four-storey building at the junction of Clontarf Street and Patricks Quay. A woman in the building tried to talk to him as the emergency services arrived.

He walked across the slanting, slated roof, lost his footing and fell headfirst on to a parked van.
