A man is recovering in hospital following a stabbing incident at a halting site in Waterford yesterday morning.
Gardaí in Waterford responded to reports of an incident at the Kilbarry Halting Site in the city at around 4am. A man was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital (WRH), where he underwent an emergency operation later yesterday morning.
A Health Service Executive (HSE) spokeswoman yesterday evening described the man's condition as "stable".
Gardaí arrested a man in his 20s in relation to public order offences. He was questioned at Ballybricken Garda station yesterday.
The halting site was the scene of an incident in May, when armed gardaí responded to reports of a major public order incident there. Up to 50 people from two warring families were reported to have been involved in bare-knuckle boxing at the site.
One man received treatment at WRH for hand injuries, while another was arrested in connection with public order offences.
