Man 'stable' after Limerick city centre shooting

A man is in a stable condition in hospital today after been shot in Limerick city centre last night.

A man is in a stable condition in hospital today after been shot in Limerick city centre last night.

In the incident on Lenihan Avenue at about 11 p.m., the victim (34), who is from the city, was shot in the back by two men who got out of a black or navy car. The gunmen were wearing balaclavas, one was armed with a handgun and the other carried a sawn-off shotgun.

The man's injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The gunmen drove off in the direction of Hyde Road, and the victim was taken to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital. It is believed the attack may be drug-related.
