A 20-year-old man was shot in both ankles at Twinbrook in west Belfast at around 11 p.m. on Sunday. Four men are thought to have been involved in the paramilitary-style attack in Almond Drive.

In a separate incident on Sunday, two men, aged 19 and 22, received hospital treatment for cuts to their heads and severe bruising to their bodies following another paramilitary-style assault in Rathcoole, Co Antrim, near Belfast.

The victims were in a house on Derrycoole Way when up to nine masked men armed with sticks and baseball bats forced their way in at midnight and attacked them.

A man aged 18 received treatment in hospital for smoke inhalation after an arson attack on his Poolglass, west Belfast home early yesterday morning. Meanwhile, a security alert on the Border, which began at 3 p.m. on Sunday, ended yesterday afternoon. Two explosions were carried out on a stolen car abandoned on the main Strabane to Lifford road but the car was later discovered to be empty.
