Man's death being treated as murder

Gardaí opened a murder investigation yesterday, days after a pensioner was found dead on his bathroom floor in Co Donegal.

An autopsy carried out on the body of Séamus Doherty led gardaí to upgrade their investigation.

Mr Doherty (67) was found dead at his home at Drumacanoo in Churchill at about 1.30am last Sunday.

A number of people had been at the house.

Gardaí were contacted and Mr Doherty was found dead at the scene a short time later.

Supt Eugene McGovern of Milford Garda station said nobody had been arrested.

He also said he was not in a position to say what injuries Mr Doherty suffered.
