A man's body has been pulled from the River Shannon in Limerick, gardaí confirmed today.

A man's body has been pulled from the River Shannon in Limerick, gardaí confirmed today.

The body of a man, believed to be in his 30s, was taken from the water near Athlunkard Bridge close to the city centre shortly after 8am.

Gardaí at Mayorstone were alerted after the body was spotted by a passer-by.

Officers said they do not know at this stage if there is anything suspicious in the man's death.

The State Pathologist's office has been informed for a post-mortem examination to be carried out and the scene was preserved.
