A MAN was remanded in custody yesterday when he pleaded guilty at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to handling stolen property.

Keith Rowan (25), from Glenshane Drive, Dublin, was stopped by gardai on November 2nd, 1995, while driving a stolen Nissan van.

Garda Tom McManus said Rowan was jailed recently for terms of two years for burglary, six months for possession of heroin and 13 months for driving another stolen Nissan van.

He also was disqualified from driving for 10 years in 1994 for a similar offence. He had a total of 5 convictions.

The van he was driving on November and 1995, had false registration plates fitted. It had been stolen on October 30th in Tallaght and was valued at £2 500.

Garda McManus agreed with Mr Dan Boland defending that Rowan had made a statement admitting he knew it was stolen.

He said it was given to him by one of his friends and he was on his way to his girlfriend when Garda McManus stopped him.

Judge Kieran O'Connor remanded Rowan in custody so that inquiries could be made to see if he was on bail when he committed this offence. "If he was on bail I have a statutory duty to impose a consecutive sentence to his current term."
