A 45-year-old man appeared in court this afternoon charged in connection with the death of a man outisde a Co Galway pub early yesterday.

Patrick Doherty, Clooncon West, Glenamaddy, appeared at Roscommon District Court at 4pm charged over the death of Frank Fahy in Glenamaddy.

Francis Fahy of O¿Keefe Park, Glenamaddy, died after an incident outisde the pub in The Square, Glemamaddy at about 1.30am yesterday.

Mr Doherty was also charged with assault causing harm to Gerard Costello also of Cloonculane, Glenamaddy.

Detective Garda Mick O¿Driscoll told Judge Geoffrey Browne that he arrested Doherty at 2.26pm in Tuam today. He said that Mr Doherty said he had nothing to say to either charge.

Doherty, who was granted free legal aid, was represented by Tuam solicitor Tom O¿Donoghue.

Judge Browne remanded him in custody to appear before Harristown District Court on this Friday.
