A man wanted by the UK authorities in connection with the rape of a teenage girl five years ago has been further remanded in custody by the High Court here.

John Renner Dillon is wanted in Britain where he is facing charges for the alleged rape of a then-16-year-old girl in Tyne and Wear in England in October 2002.

It is claimed that, while on bail, he failed to turn up before a Magistrates Court in England in October 2002.

Today, Mr Justice Michael Peart remanded Dillon (41), a native of Newcastle, England, to appear before the High Court in two weeks time.

The UK authorities had issued an appeal for information in relation to Renner Dillon on the BBC's Crimewatchprogramme.

He was arrested in Dublin on Monday on foot of a European extradition warrant. A previous court hearing was told the man denied to the gardaí he was John Renner Dillon and claimed he was "Jeff Woodhouse".

The court was told that Jeff Woodhouse was an alias being used by the person whose extraditon was being sought and that tattoos on the man corresponded to ones that are described in the warrant.

Mr Justice Peart said he was satisfied the man before the court was Dillion.
