A warrant was issued yesterday by the Central Criminal Court for a Dublin man (28) who has broken his bail conditions by absconding to England shortly before his rape trial was due to start. Garda Ann O'Sullivan said she had confidential information that he had gone to England and had put a deposit on a premises there. She did not believe the man would appear for his trial next Wednesday.

Mr Justice Morris said an extradition warrant could be sought at a later date. The man is charged with the rape, sexual assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm of a woman in July 1995. He was arrested and formally charged on November 17th, 1995.

In February the man's bail conditions were varied by the High Court and he was ordered to sign on daily at Kevin Street Garda station. Sgt James O'Sullivan of Kevin Street said he had not signed on since November 4th.
