A former Oberstown House care worker, described by a judge as "evil and dangerous", was jailed yesterday by Judge Patrick McCartan for 10 years for buggering a juvenile detainee.

David Murray (56), with a Dublin address, is already serving a 10-year sentence imposed in October 1997 for similar offences he committed at St Joseph's Care Centre, Kilkenny, and on foster children in the 1970s.

Murray was convicted some weeks ago by a Dublin Circuit Criminal Court jury of buggering a 14-year-old Oberstown House detainee during a camping trip in Glendalough, Co Wicklow, 20 years ago.

He was also found guilty on six counts of indecent assault and three of gross indecency. All the offences happened between October 1980 and September 1981.
