A man who sexually assaulted his sister was sentenced to three months' imprisonment yesterday. Cliff Duffy (22), of Buckingham Village, Dublin, had denied assaulting his sister, Ms Jacinta Duffy (20), in their father's flat when she was 18 years old. Ms Duffy waived her right to anonymity.
During a trial held over three days, Dublin District Court heard that Ms Duffy had accused her brother of a similar offence nearly five years ago, but the DPP had decided not to prosecute.
In January 1999 Ms Duffy was living with her father in a one-bedroom flat in the inner city when her brother moved in. One night, when their father and his girlfriend were out, he called her into the bedroom, pushed her on to the bed and held her down before putting his hand under her clothes, touching her intimately and kissing her all over the body. The ordeal lasted two hours.
