Man jailed for killing neighbour

A man who punched and kicked his neighbour to death has been jailed for five years

A man who punched and kicked his neighbour to death has been jailed for five years. Mr Christopher Farrell (42) died after Damien Hannigan left him on the roadside unconscious, Dublin Circuit Criminal Court has heard.

There was a commotion in the court after Judge Dominic Lynch passed sentence. The deceased man's sisters shouted to Hannigan as he was led from court: "You killed him, you know you did. Have you got any children? Five years for killing our brother. Justice - what is it?" One sister then turned to Judge Lynch and said: "Everyone is terrified of him in Griffith Road, they call him `the wolf' and he slashes people's faces."

Hannigan (30), of Griffith Road, Finglas, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Mr Farrell on January 23rd, 1998, at Griffith Road.
