A man was jailed for 18 months at the Special Criminal Court yesterday ) after he admitted firing two shotgun blasts through the front door of a house in Dundalk last year.

Thomas Murray (25), of Marian Park, Dundalk, Co Louth, pleaded guilty to recklessly discharging a firearm and causing £215 damage to the front door of Mr Brian McArdle at Oakland Park, Dundalk on April 22nd, 1997. He also admitted causing criminal damage to a glass panel on Mr McArdle's front door on September 10th, 1996.
