Police in northern Ireland have arrested a man in his twenties after a teenager was stabbed to death in Co Armagh last night.

The 16-year-old was stabbed near the centre of Portadown on the Carlton Street and Meadow Lane area at about 11.30 p.m. He died later in hospital.

Detectives investigating the murder of the teenage boy have also seized a passport. Officers were earlier today hunting for a foreign national they want to question about the attack.

It is understood the victim had been involved in a dispute earlier this month close to where he was knifed.

Mr George Savage, an Ulster Unionist Assembly member for the area, said he was horrified by the stabbing. "This is utterly despicable," he said. "This is a terrible thing to happen during the festive season."
