A man who spent 15 years on the run in the US appeared at a special sitting of the Special Criminal Court in Dublin yesterday. Mr Thomas Moyna (42), father of four of Scotstown, Co Monaghan, returned on Sunday and was arrested by arrangement in Monaghan on Monday.

Sgt James Balfe told the court that Mr Moyna was arrested on foot of a warrant issued by the Special Criminal Court on July 20th, 1983.

He had failed to appear for a remand hearing then to face five charges, including possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life at Redhills, Co Cavan, on April 1st, 1983; having them under his control; falsely imprisoning Mr Peter Maguire and hijacking Mr Maguire's car on the same date.

The court freed Mr Moyna on his own bail of £5,000 and independent bail of £25,000. He was remanded until November 3rd.
