A man was electrocuted during Thursday night’s thunderstorms when he went to the aid of holidaymakers at Brittas Bay, Co Wicklow.

Donal Kinney, in his 40s, from Summerhill area of Wicklow town, went to the assistance of a family from Celbridge, Co Kildare, when the holidaymakers found themselves with no water in the mobile home they were renting at Cronagower.

Thunder and lightning were raging up along the east coast at about 10pm when the holidaymakers called for the assistance of the man, the father of a young family, who is thought to work as a caretaker at the holiday homes complex.

An attempt was made to revive him with the use of CPR and an ambulance and gardaí were summoned to the scene.
