A 45-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his mother in a nursing home in Co Waterford earlier this year.

A 45-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his mother in a nursing home in Co Waterford earlier this year.

Gerard Vollrath from Tramore was today charged with the murder of Veronica Vollrath (83) at Killure Bridge Nursing Home on January 9th last.

At Waterford District Court, Det Gda Maureen Neary gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution.

Mr Vollrath no reply to the charge, the court heard.

Insp Anthony Dineen asked that a previous charge of manslaughter laid against Mr Vollrath be struck out.

He applied to have Mr Vollrath returned for trial on the murder charge at the next sitting of the Central Criminal Court.

Judge Kevin Staunton granted the application and remanded Mr Vollrath in custody to appear at the next sitting of the Central Criminal Court in Dublin tomorrow.
