A 29-year-old man is due to appear in court this morning in connection with the theft of more than €20,000 from a pensioner in Cork at the weekend.

The man was arrested on Tuesday evening in Tower near Blarney and brought to Gurranebraher Garda station for questioning.

A man claiming to be a garda called to the home of a 70-year-old man in the Sun Valley Drive area of Cork’s northside on Sunday morning. He tricked the man into revealing his stash of money and then snatched it.

The suspect will be brought before Cork District Court this morning where he will be charged with two offences in relation to the theft of the cash and pretending to be a garda.
