A man will appear in Naas District Court tomorrow morning charged with murder and assault.
Mr Derek Hickey (26), Penrose Apartments, Main Street, Newbridge, is charged with the murder of three-month-old Leilah Hickey and the assault of Ms Sinead Smullen (18), Leilah's mother. He was charged yesterday at a special sitting of Naas District court. Mr Conall Boyce said he was concerned for his client's psychiatric well-being, and requested free legal aid.
Judge William Earley remanded Mr Hickey in custody until 11 a.m. tomorrow and ordered that a psychiatric assessment be carried out. He also ordered that Mr Hickey be given any medical treatment deemed necessary.
