Man charged with Glenamaddy murder

A 45-YEAR-OLD man has been remanded in custody after being charged with the murder of a young man in Glenamaddy in Co Galway.

A 45-YEAR-OLD man has been remanded in custody after being charged with the murder of a young man in Glenamaddy in Co Galway.

Pat Doherty, with an address at Clooncon West, Glenamaddy, appeared before a scheduled sitting of Roscommon District Court.

He was charged with the murder of Francis Fahy (19), of O'Keefe Park, Glenamaddy, on Monday.

Mr Doherty, who wore blue jeans and a black jumper during the three-minute hearing, was also charged with assaulting Gerard Costello of Creggs Road, with intent to cause harm.

Detective Garda Mick O'Driscoll told Judge Geoffrey Browne that he arrested Mr Doherty at 2.26pm in Tuam yesterday afternoon.

He said Mr Doherty had nothing to say in relation to the two charges.

Mr Doherty, who was granted free legal aid, was represented by Tuam solicitor Tom O'Donoghue.

Judge Browne remanded him in custody to appear before Harristown District Court on Friday.
